A robust foundation is imperative to success in any middle-school mathematics course. This portion of LTP’s Summer Jumpstart Program will cover essential math skills spanning Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry.
Pre-Algebra: This portion of the course familiarizes students with numbers’ real-world manifestations, showcasing the applicability of math in real life — all the while preparing them for the upcoming scholastic year and future standardized tests. Students will explore a range of concepts in-depth, including — but not limited to — fractions, decimals, order of operations, percentages, and proportions.
Algebra I – Abstract thought finally meets its numerical counterpart. Here, students will investigate a world beyond integers — using variables to solve algebraic equations for the first time. Our jumpstart curriculum will establish a framework for continued success in upper-level maths. Focal points include multi-step equations, inequalities, proportions, and graphing.
Geometry – The handiwork of Euclid and Archimedes, it is no wonder geometry proves formidable for many students. LTP’s jumpstart program illuminates this abstruse subject, beginning with engaging lessons on the year’s requisite vocabulary. From there, students will jump head-first into geometry’s foundations, with discussion of parallel lines, angles, and reasoning — as well as the heavily-tested circles and triangles.
